The LEADS Framework
Your Framework for the Half Nester™ Season
There are so many names for life stages. New parent. Caregiver. Empty nester. But the in-between often goes unnamed.
And, when a season has no name, it’s easy to assume the tension means you’re doing something wrong. The truth is simpler: you’re holding a complex chapter. LEADS is the map that helps you hold it with more compassion, clarity, and intention.
Story
What LEADS is
LEADS is the framework we use inside the Half Nester™ course to guide your growth through this season, without turning your life into a self-improvement project.
It’s a five-part lens you can return to when you feel scattered, stretched thin, or stuck in reaction mode.
- L – Living with Intention
- E – Empowering Body & Mind
- A – Aspiring & Adventuring
- D – Designing Life & Space
- S – Sustaining Your Soul
Each pillar gives you language for what you’re experiencing and a direction for what to do next, in a way that fits real life.
I am the mother of 15-year-old twins with one boarding at a private school and one at home. In the beginning, I felt very unprepared for my family’s situation because transferring to a private school was initiated by my son. It was never on my radar! When I heard the term “half nester” I felt like someone finally understood my situation. For me, with my kids being 15, I would describe myself as a premature half nester! As I have processed my new reality, I have done a lot of crying, I have prayed a lot, and ultimately, I now feel (mostly) at peace.
The phrase “only healthy birds leave the nest” has helped me the most in times of sadness. My son wouldn’t have pursued this if he really didn’t want to and wasn’t ready. I’m proud of him for making some very mature and important decisions for himself. I’m profoundly proud of my husband and I as parents who have allowed our son to chase his dreams. I now view my premature half nester situation as a gift. It is an opportunity to watch my son grow and ultimately thrive in an environment without 24/7 parenting, it is an opportunity to continue to focus on my daughter that is still at home, and it is now that much more special when we’re all together.

LEADS
Why a framework helps in a season like this...
In a transition season, the hardest part is often the mental load: trying to keep track of everything you’re carrying, while your roles are changing underneath you. A framework does three powerful things:

Replace Self-blame with Context
Instead of “Why can’t I keep up like I used to?” you get to say, “Of course this feels different. My season has changed.”

Give Yourself a Vocabulary
When you can name what’s happening, you can talk about it, plan around it, and ask for support without apologizing.

Find Your a Return Path
When life gets loud, LEADS helps you find your way back to what matters most, one pillar at a time.
Pillars
The Five Pillars of LEADS
Living With Intention
This pillar is about how you move through your days and weeks.
Not perfection. Not rigid discipline. Just a steady shift from reacting to choosing.
Living with Intention helps you ask:
- What matters most in this season?
- What do I want to be true about how I show up?
- What reveals my real priorities right now?
When you lead with intention, you stop treating your life like an emergency and start creating a rhythm you can actually live inside.
Empowering Body & Mind
Half Nesting often overlaps with real shifts in energy, hormones, stress, sleep, and emotional bandwidth. This pillar is about listening to your body and supporting your nervous system, instead of overriding your needs and calling it “strength.”
Empowering Body & Mind helps you:
- notice what your body has been trying to tell you
- reduce overwhelm with practical regulation tools
- care for your mental and emotional health with compassion, not shame
Empowerment is not doing more. It’s learning what helps you feel steady again.
Aspiring & Adventuring
This is the part of you that still wants things.
Not necessarily big, dramatic reinvention. More like curiosity, desire, play, and possibility coming back online.
Aspiring & Adventuring invites questions like:
- What lights me up now?
- What do I want to learn, try, or explore in this season?
- What would feel like a small return to myself?
Sometimes the bravest move in a responsible season is letting yourself want something again.
Designing Life & Space
Your environment shapes your nervous system. Your routines shape your energy. Your systems shape your capacity.
This pillar is about making your life easier to live, through small, thoughtful design:
- how your home is set up
- how responsibilities are shared
- how your calendar supports your values
- how you create space for what matters
Designing Life & Space is where “I’m overwhelmed” becomes “Here’s what needs to change in the structure.”
Sustaining Your Soul
This pillar is about what keeps you grounded when everything is shifting.
Sustaining your Soul can look like
- reflection and stillness
- meaningful conversations
- faith, awe, and practices that steady you
- relationships that feel like home
- rituals that help you remember who you are
:This is not about being “more spiritual.” It’s about being more supported from the inside out
.
How LEADS works in real life
LEADS is not a checklist. It’s a way to orient.
Some weeks, you’ll lean into one pillar because it’s the one you need most. Other weeks, you’ll notice a pattern: “I’m strong in L and D, but my body is waving a flag,” or “I’m doing the responsibilities, but I feel disconnected from joy.”
When you know which pillar is calling for attention, you stop trying to fix everything at once.
